Course description

No matter what your experience of drama is at the moment, I can assure you that you can effectively lead the exercises in this course with your class. The very fact that you are here right now shows that you value drama and that your pupils will benefit from your new upcoming ideas!

The exercises in this course are aimed at pupils aged 7-12 but can be adapted for younger or older pupils.

  • The Drama Box Online is an online CPD/CLPL training course for individual primary teachers which they can work through at their own pace within their own individual account.
  • You can click and buy as an individual just now, or to buy this course in discounted bulk (4 or more users) for your school, college, university or authority please email: hello@kirstenmccrossan.com
  • If your Head Teacher, Manager or Lead Booker has given you a pre-paid code, simply click on that URL code and go to 'Enroll for free'.
  • The Drama Box is a Quality Assured Creative Partner of The Creativity Portal by Education Scotland & Creative Scotland.

The training for each exercise comes in three main sections:

1. Introductory videos with myself, where I discuss and describe the upcoming exercise, peppered with visual clips of the exercises in action with various classes, so you can sit back and listen to an overview.

2. Videos of the exercise in action, where you can see the full exercise led by myself with a group of pupils. This brings the exercise to life and allows you to see exactly how the exercise may look in action.

3. Extensive downloadable notes which include explanations; example teaching scripts; ideas for delivering at three different levels (getting a solid foundation, consolidating learning and taking ownership); an ideas bank to give some creative starting points and ideas for using within interdisciplinary learning. You are more than welcome to print these out so they are handy for whenever you need them.

Other sections that may feature for different exercises include:

  • Recap explainer videos, very short simple animated videos to recap the main points.
  • 'Skills' notes, highlighting the specific skills and learning an exercise encourages. This section has an optional extra of specific notes for the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE Notes) including the E's & O's and Benchmarks.
  • 'Class Management' notes, outlining possible issues which may arise and tips to prevent them.

Depending on your own personal style of learning, training needs and time available; you may wish to use only the videos in action (2) or only the downloadable notes (3) however, if you have the time and wish an in depth understanding of each exercise, I highly recommend completing all four sections and all accompanying notes and text.

Other Features & Benefits of the Course:

-You will have a full 365 days of access to the course from when you sign up!

Amazing course...thank you so much! Lots of practical ideas that you can deliver straight away with your class. The videos bring everything to life and, combined with the notes, helped the ideas to stick in my mind. Thanks again!

This course has given me lots of ideas to take straight into my drama classes. I have used many of them already, with great success. Not everything was completely new to me, but it has helped me to put much more energy into some ideas that I was already using. I like the progression in the series of activities. There is scope to use it all and build up skills with a group you are working with over a longer period of time, but there are also many activities that can be picked out and used as part of any session. The format of the course is very user-friendly. I love being able to see the ideas put into action and also have the downloadable instructions to refer to. I know that there are ideas from this course that I will use and adapt for the rest of my teaching career. Thank you for making this one of the most worthwhile courses I have taken part in for a long time.

I really enjoyed completing the online course as it was interesting and more creative than other online courses that I have completed. The structure provided is fantastic and I used some of the games the very next day. I personally feel a lot more confident in teaching drama after completing this course. I am now able to use drama to support other curriculum areas rather than teaching it as an individual subject. I would highly recommend!

A thorough and in depth course which is a source of inspiration to be creative in your own teaching practice. Drama exercise books can be great but videos showing exercises in action, accompanied by pre-exercise explanations and downloadable notes, are invaluable. The use of drama in the classroom and beyond, has so many benefits and this course brings this to light. This innovative course is definitely a confidence booster and I no longer feel rusty to use drama in the classroom nor do I feel rusty leading my drama after-school club! Inspiring and useful CPD and I think should be required on all primary teacher training. Your pupils will love you even more for it!

As a student teacher I was delighted to have the opportunity to complete the Drama Box CPD course. Drama is an area which i lack confidence in, mainly due to my lack of experience. This course has given me insight in how to implement drama easily, without feeling too far outwith my comfort zone. I like that examples are also given in which the learners actually lead the drama themselves with a little support from the educator. The fact that everything Kirsten explains throughout this course, is then backed up with a video of it in practice with children, really helped me in understanding and seeing how well or easily certain things worked. I also think the downloadable PDF documents are particularly useful with warm ups and lesson ideas, which I am looking forward to trying out with learners myself! Overall, a great course with resources which can be started and stopped to work around your spare time.

The Drama Confidence Booster course is an absolutely fantastic resource for any teacher looking to introduce drama to the classroom. It's easy to use, with introductions to activities supported with real-life clips and downloadable notes: what, why and how to implement a raft of valuable drama-based learning. This course shows how easy, and how fun, drama can be when you share it with pupils as a powerful and effective tool. Highly recommended.

Wow! That literally sums up this course for me! As a student teacher the main focus during training is on English and Maths meaning when we qualify teaching things like drama can be quite daunting. Personally before doing this course I hated drama because of the experience I had in drama as a child. I decided to take on this course to challenge myself because I want my learners to enjoy their drama experience and I want to feel confident in myself when teaching it. Although the course is classed as CPD in all honesty its more like fun. I really enjoyed watching the videos as I felt included and as if I was actually taking part in the learning. What I thought was brilliant is that you can see the theory in practice. I like that it starts off with Kirsten talking to you about what is going to be learned and why then its a video of the lesson taking part so you can see how it actually works. I also thought the PDF's were really handy because they literally give a step by step overview and loads of advice for moving forward. This course definitely does what the title says and boosts confidence in drama. Kirsten (the woman delivering the inputs) is outstanding and really keeps you engaged throughout the course. I would recommend this to anyone who struggles with their confidence in drama because it really does support you throughout. Really looking forward to implementing all the strategies I've learned during this course. Cant wait to do more courses now!
